Diary for August 2017

It’s hard to believe that August (and what has purported to be a summer) is over – the local schools go back on Monday and I have just booked my train tickets for the annual pilgrimage to London for the Mark Grand Stewards’ Lodge and Grand Royal Ark Mariner Investiture in December.

The past month just flew by, but not without some memorable events.

Much of my time has been spent getting to grips with my new ‘job’ as Chairman of the Prior’s Close Management Committee, which is responsible for running the East Lancashire Mark Benevolent Fund’s retirement properties in Blackburn. So far so good.

On 16th August, my first Masonic event of the new season, was the Installation meeting of Wycoller Mark Lodge at Colne where I had the honour to be installed as Worshipful Master. Jim McNally delivered a fine ceremony, witnessed by some 50+ Mark Masons, including a Provincial Delegation supporting WBro Gerry Young, Assistant Provincial Grand Master, who was my ‘twin’ as a Grand Steward in Grand Mark Lodge in 2015.

Having (briefly) sobered up after the Lodge on Wednesday, on Friday we were on our way to the delightful Yorkshire spa town of Harrogate for the Annual Mark Provincial Away Weekend at the White Hart Hotel.

To round off the month, on Wednesday 30th August, I was a guest of the retiring MWS, E&P Bro John Rimmer, at the Enthronement meeting of Leyland Chapter Rose Croix in the neighbouring District of North West Lancashire. A splendid turn-out, not only from the local Chapters but also from my own District, with many of John’s colleagues from William Horrocks Chapter in Blackburn in support. Well done John on an excellent ceremony, your successor has a busy year ahead!
